Very, very nice! Any one of these is nice, but a run of 156? There are no words. Nice selection of denominations, too, from 1/2 cent to $20.

Thanks guys. Mulling over what I want to do with the set and started adding a few things as follows: 1. In 1652, John Hull, the Master of the Mint in the Massachusetts Colony strikes the first coins on land that would eventually become the United States of America. The only coins that can be attributed with certainty to that year (1652) are the plain disks know as the New England coinage based on the Colony's records. 2. In 1781, the Libertas Americana medal was commissioned by Ben Franklin, while he was the first U.S. diplomat serving as U.S. Secretary for Foreign Affairs in Paris. His task was raising money and support for the ongoing American Revolution. He engaged Augustin Dupre, the preeminent Engraver General of Currency in France to produce medals in the effort to draw that country into the Revolution. The obverse design becomes the inspiration for the depiction of Liberty's bust in early U.S. coinage. 3. The 1783 dated Nova Constellatio copper becomes Robert Morris' [U.S Senator (PA) and U.S. Superintendent of Finance, preceding Alexander Hamilton, our first Treasury Secretary] fruitless voyage toward creating the first United States coinage. Shortly after leaving his post in public office, Morris privately commissions copper coinage inspired by the Nova Constellatio silver patterns that he had also commissioned earlier. Jefferson and Southern States' interests thwart Morris' efforts. 4. The Fugio designs from early United States Goverment-issued Continental paper currency were produced in Ben Franklin's Philadelphia Franklin Press. On April 21, 1787 the Congress of the Confederation of the United States authorized a design for an official copper penny, later referred to as the Fugio cent because of its image of the Sun and its light shining down on a sundial with the caption: "Fugio." 5. Added a 1948-D Franklin half dollar, expanding the set out to that year. Let me know if this all makes sense in the context of the set or if I'm just digging ever deeper into a rabbit hole.

Really nice. When did you get the New England shilling?
Do you have any Virginia coinage? Or New Jersey?
Also are you selling the collection? As you have a price on each item.

I purchased the shilling in summer of last year. The owner was a young numismatist working at Heritage. The discussion thread about that purchase is here: http://goccf.com/t/449854&SearchTerms=ne,shillingNo real plans to add State coinage. I haven't really studied that coinage. It does seem like the Virginia coppers can be had in gem bu for a reasonable price. I may be tempted to acquire one of those. The New Jersey coppers look like a complex specialty that would take some time to digest. The coins on my site have prices because the coins are set up in an e-commerce add on to the website. It is easier to work on as an inventory item for sale. Also I am often asked what I would sell a coin for. This is a convenient way to express up front what it would take to part with my babies. As I formed the set, I had a lot of fun and opened up more possibilities as living evidence of important things that happened in our history. I think it will be fun to develop the story that the collection tells about our nation.

@ns, it should be increasingly easy to add more recent years to this list for you, so I kinda like the idea of you starting backward with colonials. Obviously, you won't have one for every year, but there are several additional years that you could add in. You could also start with states that have some meaning for you (and perhaps save NJ for last...) I'm sure that you are aware of the current Stacks auction with some of the gems that you mention above: https://auctions.stacksbowers.com/a...ts-1001-1420

Quote: Made a mistake in that I forgot that I had sold my beautifully toned blue proof 1872 quarter a few years back. Replaced it with a crusty, toned 1872 dime. Very interesting!
