Next up is the 1925 Battle of Lexington-Concord Sesquicentennial Half Dollar. The coin commemorates the 150th anniversary of the first military engagements between the American colonial militia forces and the British Army regulars, first in Lexington, then in Concord and then again as the British left Concord and headed back to Boston through Lexington (all in Massachusetts) -- it was the start of the American Revolutionary War. The obverse of the coin depicts Daniel Chester French's Minute Man statue; it was unveiled at the Centennial (1875) commemoration of the battles. The reverse shows the Old Belfry in Lexington; the bell in the Old Belfry was used to call the local militia to arms. Chester Beach was the designer of the coin. 1925 Battle of Lexington-Concord Sesquicentennial Half Dollar

Yep, love it, though it's one of the most forgettable commemorative designs to me.

Now it's time for a quick look at the 1925 Stone Mountain Memorial Half Dollar. The coin was issued to commemorate the start of the carving work on the Stone Mountain Confederate Memorial near Atlanta, Georgia (carving began in 1923). The coin's obverse features General "Stonewall" Jackson (at rear) and General Robert E. Lee on horseback. A perched eagle with outstretched wings is seen on the reverse, along with a commemorative "valor" inscription. The coin was designed by Gutzon Borglum. 1925 Stone Mountain Memorial Half Dollar

Here's the fourth of four 1925 US commemorative half dollars that I referenced above - the 1925 Fort Vancouver Centennial Half Dollar. A left-facing Dr. John McLoughlin is presented on the obverse, while the reverse features a fur trapper in the foreground with Fort Vancouver and Mt. Hood in the background. Dr. McLoughlin was the HBC's Chief Factor (Manager) of the Columbia District, taking on his position in 1824. He oversaw the construction and completion of Fort Vancouver in 1825, and held the fort's lead management position until 1846 when he resigned from the company. The coin's design was originally sketched by John Urquhart and modeled by Sydney Bell. Laura Gardin Fraser finalized this initial work and is responsible for the coin as struck. While she is often cited as the "author" of the design, IMO she served more as a talented "editor" who worked from existing sources. 1925 Fort Vancouver Centennial Half Dollar
