@len, while that extra metal has some characteristics of a Cud, I think that it is more likely to be material rolled over from the rim due to mechanical damage.

I have seen many older nickels like that and agree it is fold over but also I wonder how much metal is too much for bars?

I've seen a lot of these. If I remember someone came up with a name for them, I just can't remember what.
