If these questions have been asked already, sorry!

Given the small size of these coins, they surely must have been easy to lose, so were people during the time reluctant to use them?

Are their any contemporary complaints about them?

Was their small size one of the reasons they stopped being minted?

So lets talk about 1850 to 1901 , 1 dollar had quite a bit of spending value back then which would lead me to believe people protected and kept their money safe. No holes in pockets, coinage kept in change purse or a small leather pouch.

Yes they were easy to use, I'm not aware of specific complaints but they probably exist, and probably the majority of the Type III coins ended up being used for jewelry. There are records in the Mint archives about it and one of the reasons for their discontinuance was because many were just being siphoned off for the jewelry trade.
