Pete, not sure if this may be Feeder Finger Damage but hoping the OP will take a closeup of that area I have circled.

Hi Pete,

Came across this 1958 D today. It's definitely a RPM. Probably the 1958 D-012. The damage near the bottom of the bust is similar to that of the 1959 LWC I posted on 6/20/25. The damage is listed a die gouges on VV. I'm not sure if this does, or does not support your belief regarding finger feeder damage. Either way it is more information for your research.

Cheers,
NYI

Thank you! While it may be related, I think it is too isolated to say with any certainty. Appreciate your thinking to add it here!

Many coin experts have informed me that this type of anomaly is known as "roller marks/planchet irritation". Thank you for this information. How about this?

That is plating irregularities = corrugation.

I think I have posted a paper about that in the group. Using my phone now, but will search for that link tomorrow when I return to my computer. If you find it before then, let me know.

Good information: a lot better than just saying planchet issue, Dryer Coin, etc. Thank you.

@Pete,
Has any research been done on " Machine Doubling" and "Hub Doubling"? I am not sure if these two anomalies are both mint errors or something else. Are these two tools used by the mint, etc? I see lots of coins that are claimed to be double dies but look like a reflection/splash. Need facts. Thank you.

I might have another 57D example for you Pete. I have multiple examples all showing the same scrapes.

CoinHi

Thanks!

Very Interesting! I am adding it to my census! There are so few examples of 57D and this is first I have seen for the Reverse!

Two nickels that I recently found. No conclusions yet as to whether the coins show Feeder Finger Damage, trail dies, or some other form of long, parallel die scrapes or gouges.

I would think Feeder Finger Damage, definitely not trails. We'll see what Pete thinks.
