My main question in this topic is why dansco? I know they're made in America, but what else about them is so special? And what about all the others? *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum.  *** |

My collection started in Whitman folders. I wanted to move to albums and my grandfather wanted to help. He took me to his buddy's coin shop and said he would buy me a couple. His buddy sold Dansco, so that is what I got. A Dansco 8176 for my Eisenhower dollars and an 8166 for my Kennedy half dollars. The next year I bought an 8100 for my Lincoln cents. I stuck with what I knew. |

For me, Dansco albums are a bit more substantial/rugged than Whitman products. I have both. These days, I'm at 90%+ Dansco and the remainder is Whitman.

I have several different brands. One thing I don't like about Dansco is the lack of thumb tabs. The windows can be hard to slide out at times. My preference is the newer blue Whitman. I like the looks of silver against the blue and the thumb tabs.
That said my uncirculated and more valuable circulated silver dollars all go into slabs then into the plastic pages that fit a 3 ring binder.

I do not mind the lack of thumb tabs in the Dansco albums, I just have to be gentle and patient. After 40+ years, I suppose I have adapted.

Dansco albums are routinely considered the highest quality, longest-lasting albums. They are rugged and hold up better over decades compared to Whitman. Arguably, that is because they are made in America by a small family-owned company. I always recommend reading hfjacinto's comparison of Dansco, Littleton, and Whitman for more info about the different album brands. |

I started with Dansco because that was the thing I saw everyone recommending and doing, but I did end up buying Whitmans for my Jefferson and Buffalo nickels, as well as my Lincoln cents, and I have to say that I actually love them. If only they had slip cases! |
