Quote: My three sets arrived today. $450. Ouch. Did you say somewhere else you were buying sets for your kids? FWIW last year's sets were $130 each, still expensive. Can the market handle a $20 spike every year? I've said it in other posts but I'm likely done with all US Mint sets after 2026 as these prices continue to soar.

Well, it's a lot easier to leave them to my kids than it would be to try to sell them.

Quote: Well, it's a lot easier to leave them to my kids than it would be to try to sell them. Yeah I get that. Very true but probably also why many collections get liquidated for much less than their actual worth. It's no wonder CL is littered with "buying all coin colletinons!" ads. Consider the amount of time and resources you invested in putting the collection together. Why wouldn't you curate it and treat it like a well-documented museum collection to make it easy for your heirs to either continue to nurture or allow them to sell at a fair price? I'm 100% guilty of this too... I really need to start up a "how to liquidate Dad's collection" playbook. I don't plan on shuffling off this mortal coil any time soon but, eh, plans are just plans and it's prudent to have backups sorted for your next of kin.

I'm going to hang on to mine and let my kids worry about what to do with them.

I visited the physical U.S Mint store today in Washington, D.C., and was told sales of the 2025 Silver Proof Set have been suspended, following the discovery of quality (tarnishing) issues with many of the sets. Stay tuned.

@jbuck — still waiting for official word or a notice about this, but that what I was told today by the U.S. Mint Store employee. All their in-store sets were recalled and are being inspected.

Will be curious to see if/when an official announcement is made. The U.S. Mint employee stated that a large number of "faulty" sets had been found at a coin show last weekend and that they had been told to suspend sales while other unsold sets were being checked. Wish I knew more.

@cptbilly — is that toning on the Althea Gibson above LIBERTY, or just lighting?
