No US coppers - at all - which is really odd. 1873 Arrows Quarter is looking like an S - one could only hope for a CC there. Have yet to date any of the cash coins, need to restore first.   |

late 1800s railroad construction camp Exactly - the section of rail was completed in '83 and the condition of the '82 dime aligns with that time frame. Too bad their Opium pipes are typically carved from bone - it would be so cool to find a relic like that. Not impossible though, some items are still lying on the surface. Edited by DOCC

Fantastic historical finds from a rail line construction camp! I hope you give some of these your fabulous restoration efforts. Edit to add: Why do the quarters appear to be generally the same diameter as the dimes? I assume this is because you took individual photos of the coins, resized them all the same and then put them together as a composite image. Please clarify.  Edited by nickelsearcher

The cash coins are a little larger than a nickel. I swing a metal detector and have a knack for finding dirty old coins. FILL YOUR HOLES. Don't ruin it for everyone else by being a lazy POS and leaving a carpet bombed landscape of dig holes. I arrived at this site to 100's, literally 100's, of unfilled holes. I don't care how remote it is - FILL YOUR HOLES. Well low and behold I bump into the responsible party on site on second visit. Start chatting (I actually know him) and I kindly ask him to fill his holes. Shrugs it off, tells me he has only got one coin out of spot, and continues on. KARMA I fill as many of his holes as I come across and I am rewarded by the MD OverWatchers with 6 cash coins, 4 Seated dimes, and 2 Seated quarters after 2 visits (1862 on 2nd visit). I go on quite a few club digs and it's really frustrating when you come across holes left unfilled and in a real mess. This sometimes leads to the club losing the permission and after all the work that goes into gaining permission to detect on land that really stinks. |

Spence - decided to process one of the cash coins as I'd like to date. Can't seem to get a dynasty/match off reverse image searching or Numista. You have any input on this one? Edit to add: 4.23 grams - 21.62 mm   Edited by DOCC
