Hi, All,
Yesterday I picked up two rolls of halves at the Credit Union. I noted that one of the rolls had BU coins at both ends. To my surprise, the entire roll consisted of BU 2023-Ds.
The second roll featured the usual fare of circulated 70s halves. Nothing unusual there.
Since I don't have an interest in saving BU rolls, I will likely cherry pick the best specimen for my collection, and use the remainder to help finance the purchase of a new addition to my Barber dime collection.
Cheers...

Very interesting!

New Kennedy half dollars have been getting out there the past few years.

And how do you propose to sell these BU duplicates at more than face value?

I wish you the best at that - but if you can find them for 50 cents in a bank roll - well, what drives any additional market value for them?

Hi, nickelsearcher,
I'm not seeking to make any gains on these halves. They are destined to be spent at FV at the nearby coin shop - a little modern pot metal for some classic silver.

Now that sounds like a perfect plan.

Not so fast...

People who need just one nice example for their set will pay more than face for it. Breaking up a BU roll is like breaking apart a Mint set—the parts are worth more on their own. The trick is finding 20 buyers.

Exactly. Putting together a BU set usually involves paying a premium over face whether it be from a mint set or a roll.
