They made me pay $96 Import fee before they released it. My wife signed for it. DHL now says "delivered". And I come home to an extremely light large box that says "repacked" and inside a ripped open envelope with nothing but the coin lot lists left. I thought it was odd when it was tracking and saying "will be delivered soon, two stops away", only to have it say status unavailable for an hour then "delivered. I guess NN is insured, but I won't get the foreign transaction fee back and why the heck did DHL just deliver a re-boxed envelope that was ripped open and empty and not even say anything? I'll be lucky if I get the $96 tariff back from DHL.

You didn't pay a tariff , you paid the shipping companies fees , big difference! Read section 9705 of the HS codes , duty free! Sorry about your rip off though .

What is worse than the person who stole the coins working at the company, is the fact that potentially there is a slide show for training at DHL that says, if you encounter an open package with the contents stolen, just put it in a big empty box and hand it to the person with a smile then mark delivered after they sign for it. Are they really being taught that? The non stealing employee must think this is the way to go.

I hope you're able to collect and get more-or-less whole. Big alarm bells for me since one of the European auction houses I buy from also uses DHL. Have you already notified DHL? Quote: You didn't pay a tariff , you paid the shipping companies fees I've never seen those fees assessed at delivery. Always part of the original invoice. Could this delivery guy have been doubly dishonest? Based on the prices, that also sounds too low for the tariff (which should be over $200 if assessed at 15% because above the de minimis threshold).

I sent the photos of the envelope and explanation right away to DHL. You can't directly write to them, you start a case for reimbursement, so I wrote my e-mail and sent it to the e-mail addresses they have for investor relations (which they do reply to for investors) and some e-mails I found for board members in Austria by searching their names. It must have worked as I received a very nice reply from someone with the title (executive response) who said she would take care of this personally. I was just frustrated when I did that as it was really not only about getting documentation about me being paid back, it was perhaps something they might want to talk to their staff about on how to handle finding a ripped open envelope.

Well done! I guess we should never underestimate the power of contacting the C-Suite directly because their general lack of technical knowledge makes them overestimate our ability to cause them reputational harm.

OK, you may not believe this, but I just got this e-mail from NN in Austria: Wonderful news and you have to wonder how that all actually happened.
"I am happy to inform you that DHL-Express has found the missing coins and will deliver them to you as soon as possible. Please let me know when they arrive and if any of them are still missing. Kind regards"

I had the same thing happen on a FedEx shipment from France. Same shoddy packaging, tossed on my porch ripped open and emptied. The seller refunded the purchase price.

Quote: Found them in an employee's locker? Most likely, considering the coins were "found" so quickly! A good outcome.

Ok, on my front step. No message about delivery, loose in the box. I will try to see if these are all here. Check against the invoice. See if all 472 are there. Oh boy. It is progress.

What a mess this has been, louisvillekyshop. I hope that they're all there. At the least you have what looks like some very fine coins in there. I'll take a silver one when you put them up for sale.
