Here's the promised follow-up on the proposed Charlie Kirk commemorative Silver Dollar. Hopefully, the hyperbolic "hot takes" posted to the original announcement for this coin will not be repeated here.Bill(s) - HR 5580 (Introduced September 26, 2025; Abraham Hamadeh (R-AZ))
Short Title - Charlie Kirk Commemorative Coin Act
Proposed Year of Issue - 2026

Findings (1) Charles "Charlie" James Kirk was an American political and cultural activist who inspired a generation of young Americans to value and practice the core freedoms enshrined under the First Amendment, namely freedom of speech and freedom of expression.
(2) Born on October 14, 1993, in Arlington Heights, Illinois, Kirk rose to prominence as a notable public figure, author, and champion of the open exchange of ideas.
(3) Founding Turning Point USA in 2012, Kirk grew the organization into a nationwide grassroots organization focused on involving young people in the political process.
(4) Today, there are over 3,500 Turning Point USA chapters at schools and universities across the United States, engaging a new generation of Americans in the country's civic life.
(5) Since Kirk's tragic death on September 10, 2025, Turning Point USA has received over 62,000 requests from students to start new chapters or expand existing ones.
(6) Charlie Kirk was a passionate defender of the First Amendment, honoring the tradition of the Nation's Founding Fathers and imparting upon Americans of all generations the importance of regularly practicing and safeguarding the crucial freedoms the United States was founded upon.

(9) A loving father, Charlie raised his daughter and son alongside Erika, recognizing and sharing the importance of forming a family.

CommentsThe bill was referred to the House Committee on Financial Services, but has not yet been acted upon.
All of the bill's co-sponsors are Republicans, but the bill does not have widespread bipartisan support in Congress; the lack of such support will sink the effort.
As I mentioned previously, I think this bill is an emotionally-driven response to Kirk's assassination; I believe it to have a low chance of being approved - though if it somehow makes it to President Trump's desk approval seems likely.
It seems very unusual for such a coin's Issue Price not to include a surcharge, and for no Sponsor/Beneficiary to be named. The bill does not even include language that net proceeds would be used to help reduce the national debt. Because of this, to me, the bill seems incomplete as written and would likely be amended at some point.
The coin's proposal is destined to elicit strong reactions from all sides. To some extent, this is nothing new/unique. Back in 1963/1964, there were those who did not favor placing an image of John Fitzgerald Kennedy("JFK") on the Half Dollar and/or believed the measure to do so was being rushed through Congress. Granted, this camp was a small minority, but my point is that 100% agreement is a diffiu=cult goal to achieve.
Likelihood of Passage? The House bill currently has 25 co-sponsors.
- Per GovTrack: TBD% (not available as of date of this post)
