I thought that woodies could only occur on copper cents.
Something about the composition of the alloys.
No matter what you call it though, nice find.

I believe that a woody coin is just a result of incomplete mixing of the alloy's constituent metals. I have seen quite a few examples among vintage Jefferson nickels, and definitely on Buffalo nickels (which are also known for lamination issues).
