Hello, I'm returning to collecting coins after a 20 year hiatus. My previous collection was stolen around 20 years ago from my apartment. No one saw or heard anything and I believe it was likely an inside job, probably the property manager but I couldn't prove it so he got away with it all. But that's "all in the past." Just saying I'm not new to collecting coins, only returning. I was never an expert by any stretch either. Why am I returning? I was looking for silver to invest in during last weeks spike and that old coin collector's bug bit me again. Mercury dimes have always been my favs so I bought a few (4). They should get here this week. In my previous collection, I had Mercury and Roosevelt dimes, pennies, Buffalo nickels, quarters and a few Morgans iirc. All very nice coins. It's been so long ago and forgotten. Most of it was inherited from my father except for the Morgans and Mercury dimes which are my favs. So it's good to find this forum. Looking forward to sharing and learning with you. Oh and I did find nice silver Eagles to invest in a little. It's a shrub against inflation

... my local coin store sells nice condition Eagles @ $3 over spot ... other countries' bullion coins @ $2 over ... silver is a good hedge, long-term ... & Eagles are a good choice (Maple Leaf Canadian also) ... IMHO ...

Thanks for the @mrwiskers Sounds like a good source. I paid on average $57 each for three NGC MS69 Eagles and that felt pretty good especially eight days ago when spot silver was about $5 higher. But yes, like you say, "long term." Thanks for the reassurance.

Glad you're back into the hobby. Keep them safe and out of sight! But there I go - as they say here "teaching my granny to suck eggs"...

I too was a victim of theft in 2011 where most of my coins and alot of other stuff was taken. A coin roll hunting video suggested earlier this year on YouTube got me bit with the coin collecting bug again. I don't think there is an antidote for it

to the forum and back to collecting again! I took a long hiatus for the same reason; in 1987 we had a house break-in and I lost the collection I'd built since I started collecting in the late 1960's. Not a lot of monetary value, other than an 1879-CC Morgan given to me by my grandmother around 1971. A tremendous amount of sentimental value, though. I didn't get start getting back into collecting until the State Quarters program began in 1999 and rekindled my interest. I look forward to seeing your acquisitions!
