I shouldn't have but I just offered $500 for this on a whim

Oh My God! Hope you didn't pay him yet. In the pics it looks like you can see something there where the mintmark should be. If anything it is a weak D as others have stated.
Next time ask first before you buy a coin that you are unsure of.

I hope you did not get scammed, self-inflicted as it may be.

Let us know what you have when the coin arrives.

It might not be counterfeit, but there's a strong possibility that it's a weak D

In my experience, if you make an offer, and the seller accepts, the payment goes through right away.

However, if the coin is not what was advertised, you have a case with ebay to return it and get your money back.

Thanks, all... I'm hoping for the best here. They shipped it with a tracking number and it should be here on Thursday. I'll try to get some better pics and post them here.

Hello... well the coin came early. I wanted to keep the image quality/resolution as high as possible but it doesn't seem like this forum will let me link to my google drive folder with the pics

Here is one with the size limit under 300kb:

If the consensus is that this is a weak D.... would this first pick be the best demonstration of that that I can send to the seller? What would the value of this be as a weak D? If I ask the seller for a partial refund instead. It looks like a pretty clear weak D in that first pic to me :(

Not as described. Return for FULL refund. Don't fool around with this coin or seller any more.
And next time, you know what to do - ask questions before buying the coin.

Oh my.... this guy.... I started the return process after he rejected a partial refund offer.

He is saying he wants me to ship the item back to him before officially "accepting" the return in ebay. But, everything I'm reading says he needs to accept it first, so that I can get a return label to ship back to him. I don't want to send this dude the coin and be out the $500 and the coin

Seller is messing with you because he doesn't want to refund the $500 (probably spent it already).
You may need to call ebay if he doesn't accept your return request. But do not send the coin back before he accepts it!

Also, communicate with this seller only through ebay messaging.

Not as described, get ebay involved right away. DO NOT SHIP back until he sends you a label. And also, have someone video you packing it with close ups of the coin and you sealing the package.

In case no one noticed, the guy has/had another one for sale too.

Definitely a the "Weak D" variety and not the "Missing D". You're definitely deserve a refund. Hopefully you can get a refund.
