This ND (1987) Singapore 1 Dollar P-18a is part of their Ship Series. The obverse depicts Sha Chuan, one of the iconic "Four Great Ancient Ships" of China. The reverse features Singapore's national flower, the Vanda Miss Joaquim, at left and the Sentosa Satellite Earth Station at right.

Quote: I think it is remarkable how nice those notes were preserved from the humid climates of Africa. The gorillas & men paddling on the back of that 1000 Francs is very eye-grabbing. Great adds CB! Thanks! I agree, I'm always on the look out for older notes from Africa, and I particularly enjoy the designs on notes from Rwanda. Two more great banknotes, walk2dwater! I love the color on the Portuguese note. My other entry for 1987 is a Sudan 1 Pound P-39. I initially bought it at a LCS thinking it was a less common 1983, but that's okay. The obverse is rather uninspired, with a cotton boll and map of Sudan. The reverse, however, features the Bank of Sudan, and I enjoy the theme of bank buildings.

Another Czech note from me for 1987, this time 50 Korun: This note features Slovak pedagogue Ludovít Štúr on the front and Bratislava Castle on the back, and circulated until the Czech and Slovak republics became separate countries. Bratislava Castle now appears on Slovakia's 50-eurocent coin. Also from 1987, a 100-escudo note from Portugal: This note shows Fernando Pessoa (1888-1935), a famous Portuguese writer, poet and literary critic.

Wow, the reverse on that Czech note is stunning! But I feel like Ludovít Štúr is staring me down. . .

CollegeBarbers, you're right! Starting 1986 with a 20-schilling note from Austria, the last type before the Euro was introduced: The front features the portrait of Moritz M. Daffinger, a renowned Austrian artist and graphic designer. The reverse shows the Albertina Art Museum in Vienna.

Lovely Austrian note, NumisRob! The art museum on the reverse is beautiful. I only have one note that is dated solely to 1986, a ND Bhutan 1 Ngultrum P-12a. The obverse has elaborate scrollwork, dragons, and the royal emblem. The reverse depicts Simtokha Dzong Palace.

Quote: Also from 1987, a 100-escudo note from Portugal: Did you notice the names on the ribbons to the right of the rose @NumisRob? I completely missed them until I looked at the Numista description. Nice Czech 50 Korun & Austrian 20 Shillings too! Quote: The obverse has elaborate scrollwork, dragons, and the royal emblem. The reverse depicts Simtokha Dzong Palace. That's a pretty note from Bhutan CB! 1986For this year, I have the P-113r 10 Marka replacement from Finland: https://en.numista.com/204376My 2nd note is a high valued Mexico P-93 50,000 Pesos https://en.numista.com/210691

1985 Royal Bank of Scotland One Pound: The reverse of this note shows Edinburgh Castle, which dominates the city of Edinburgh and has served as a fortress and royal residence since medieval times. It is now a great tourist attraction where you can see the Scottish Crown Jewels and a fine collection of old cannons. The castle serves as a dramatic backdrop to the Edinburgh Military Tattoo every summer and spectacular firework displays on New Year's Day.

Fantastic banknotes, everyone! I second jbuck's comment about the colors. The reverse scenes are lovely! First up for 1985 was a surprise find at a LCS I was visiting over the holidays, a Sierra Leone 5 Leones P-7g. They had two uncirculated examples, with serial numbers only one digit apart (somebody else must've bought the missing note). I picked up both for a great price! Now I'm hunting for the other notes in this series. They show President Siaka Stevens on the obverse, with 1985 being his last year in office. The reverse depicts the Parliament Building.
