Kicking off 1982 with a 100-Franc note from Burundi: This note features the portrait of Prince Louis Rwagasore, a Burundi prince and politician who was assassinated while serving as the country's Prime Minister in 1961.

Quote: This is identical to the design of the standard 'Series C' paper 20-Colon note, but the Tyvek note has a 'Z' prefix. I was going to pick up one of those when they were around $100 but then I just gave up. They remind me of the IOM note b/c you could get one for about 1/2 price ungraded but if you wanted a TPG Gem they were about double the price. At least that was the way it was pre-pandemic (when I searched for one). Great note to find from a trip to Costa Rica Rob! Wow! I have never found a rare note abroad. Cool 100 Francs from Burundi too! Quote: Thanks, me too! I'm still on the look out for P-26. Good luck finding the 2 Pa'anga CB! Quote: Nice Irish pound note. with @scopru & I think its hard to miss the date on that £ note @Spence! 1982This 2 Pula P-7 from Botswana is a recent addition: This 2nd note is pretty common but a pretty note, from Cyprus P-41c 250 Mils (or a 1/4 of a Cypriot Pound):

Great banknotes, everyone! The scene on the reverse of the Cyprus note is stunning. This 1982 Sao Tome and Principe 50 Dobras P-56 features an African gray parrot and a portrait of Rei Amador on the obverse. Amador led a successful yet brief slave revolt on the island in 1595. The reverse has a lovely scene with two fishermen in boats.

1981... Cyprus 250 mils: This note shows fruit and the country's coat-of-arms on the front, and a view of a copper mine on the back. Copper has been mined in Cyprus since Ancient times, and the metal's name ('Cyprium' in Latin) comes from the island's name.

Quote: Fantastic examples! Quote: Great banknotes, everyone! The scene on the reverse of the Cyprus note is stunning. Thanks @jbuck & CB (& I agree)! 1981 My first note is this Democratic Republic of Congo 10 Zaires P-24b. DRC money used to be Francs but the new dictator changed it to Zaires. This is a big note (180 X 91 mm) & features dictator Mobutu (creator of the Zaire) & leopard on front with a torch on the back. It's not very tough to acquire but sometimes tough to get in UNC (without foxing): https://en.numista.com/210410My 2nd example from this year is the Cayman Islands $40 P-9a which is a little scarcer than the first example. It features QEII on the front & Pirate's Week Festival on the back. https://en.numista.com/201542

Beautiful banknotes, everyone! Welcome to the thread, Jimjumper! Unfortunately, 1981 is a gap year for me, so I'm just enjoying the show today!

This one pound note issued by the Bank of England (#P377b) seems to be somewhere in the 1981 to 1984 range ( https://en.numista.com/202356) , but I'm not sure if it can be narrowed down more than that. I'd be glad for any input from you folks on the date.

Spence - DHF Somerset became Chief Cashier in the Bank of England in 1980, but the first £1 notes with his signature didn't appear in circulation until 1981. Starting off 1980 with a Chinese 10 Yuan: This note features portraits of a Han man and a Mongolian woman on the front, showing the variety of different ethnic groups found in China. The reverse shows Mount Everest,

1980 - Federal Republic of Germany 10 Deutschemarks: Notes with this design exist dated 1960, 1970, 1977 and 1980; they were demonetised in 1995. The front of the note shows a portrait of a young man by Lucas Cranach the Elder. The reverse shows the German Navy's training ship, the Gorch Fock, which was launched in 1958 to replace a training ship taken by the USSR as war reparations. You can read about the Gorch Fock here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germa..._Fock_(1958)

Quote: 1980 - Federal Republic of Germany 10 Deutschemarks: Nice adds Rob! (Interesting backstory about the Gorch Fock training vessel too). to the thread @Jimjumper Quote: Lovely examples! -Thanks @jbuck 1980First up is my Fiji P-78a $5.00 I picked up this note for the reverse image of the fishermen from Fiji using spears & surrounding the school of fish. https://en.numista.com/231205 My 2nd example from this year is the first Belgium P-140 100 Francs The front features Hendrik Beyaert at centre right; architectural view and plan at left. It is one of a handful of World notes which feature an architect. What I found interesting about this note is that the 2nd P-140b variety (released in 1980) had the "Dasin-Stryker" signatures on the front (only) while subsequent (all P-142 subsequent versions) have 2 signatures on both sides. The early P-140 version is much tougher than the later P-142. Everyone seems to mix up P-140 with P-142 It is a subtle difference and it doesn't help that Numista has lumped both versions together either! https://en.numista.com/203558
