Interesting this is being "hoarded". Google that little critter. It is a pretty amazing read.

They're very attractive notes. After seeing examples of international currency, you realize how boring and bland US currency is.

Since so few people actually collect banknotes when I first came across this (on Reddit) I could not help but wonder if it is actually this note:
https://en.numista.com/482762

which commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Bank of Mexico. They will only be a few prefixes (looks like DV-DZ).
It also was just released & looks a lot less purple than the regular 50 & happens to be quite tough in comparison to the regular 50 Pesos. Other than the shade of purple being lighter, there is also a tiny reference to the BoM 100th anniversary (check the Numista link above).

The bank's anniversary designation has been continued on their 100, 200, 500 & 1000 Pesos but I doubt the average Mexican wants to hang onto those larger denominations (with their higher buying power).

It's a lovely low-value note, so it makes sense why people in Meixco would keep it. Somewhat akin to the hoarding of the 1964 Kennedy half dollar: it's a subject that's near to people's hearts.

Interesting, I'll have to look for this note. I only have one banknote from Mexico.

@CollegeBarbers & would really like to get an example. I guess I'm going to have to get my butt to the exchange outlet & try my luck!

Either that or fly to Mexico!

Looks like you can pick up one on ebay! I'm not sure about the tariff situation, but maybe there's a Canadian seller.

Thank you for sharing!

Interesting timing. The latest episode of Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage featured a song called "Do the Axolotl" written by Connor.

I'm glad you mentioned this type, walk2dwater! I decided to pick one up. It's a very pretty note and I'm glad to have a scarcer variety.

I just picked a few up too but one has the EA prefix & its probably AU condition. I got it from my exchange place (we're going to Mexico) & the others are all very circulated including an ED prefix (so not sure how "scarce" the commemorative will be ). Now, I have to try to find the 20 Pesos & 100 Pesos in UNC!

Nice, I'm glad you found one for face value! I recently ordered the 100 Pesos with the centennial overprint. Hopefully it'll arrive before Christmas.

Although from circulation, my daughter just returned from Mexico and brought me this note. Its a nice little add to my circulated note collection.
