Thank you, friends Oh! I'm not sure how I missed this, but I actually also got an 1867 without rays as well. The with rays was definitely more expensive. I am happy with the amount of detail and condition of the coins I found, though. I've been scoping out this nice 1870 on ebay right now, but... haven't quite pulled the trigger yet Obverse Reverse This set definitely has a ways to go. The coins from 1877-1880 will probably never be obtained. Proof Shield nickels are WAY out of my budget

So, I found out recently that it would appear that 1912-S, despite having a much lower mintage than the 1885 and 1886 coins, isn't quite as expensive as the 85 and 86. The 12-S only had a mintage of 238,000, compared to 1,473,300 with the 1885, and 3,326,000 with the 1886. Crazy. It looks like the 12-S and 1886 can both be had for around 100 dollars, whereas the 1885 is around 200.

Conditional rarity maybe. More were saved in 1912 than in 1885.

Yeah, that is more than likely it. Nothing new with Liberty nickels currently for me. On the Shield side, I have a decent 1870 coming from ebay. The really nice 1868 that I ordered on January 18th, and was basically stuck in transit or whatever and I got refunded for, is now moving evidently. The seller told me to keep the coin as well. So.. whenever that gets here. Lol. I also ordered another "variety" type. 1873 "closed 3" variety. I found them for a decent price on some coin website. Kind of hard to find nice examples of this one in particular, for cheaper. They had it for under 30 dollars. Website is called Mount Vernon coins. Seems pretty legit, though, there seems to be some discrepancies about what inventory they actually have in stock. So, I may end up getting this one eventually and may not.

Actually, I take that back I just ordered a pretty decent looking 1883 "with cents." Couldn't pass it up. "No cents" reverse Some of these more pricier coins in the series, I may have to bend a little bit to fit my budget. I think this one looks pretty good, though. Definitely not F-XF, but still nice details. Little bit of detail in Liberty left. The 1883 with cents is another example of "conditional rarity," like jbuck pointed out. People hoarded the 1883 no cents, so there appears to be a lot more of them available at good prices. They did, however, not hang onto the with cents as much. With cents generally costs more, especially in grades above VG. This one came in at a little under 30 dollars. The no cents can be had in super nice condition for like 10-15 dollars.

Thank you! I got three coins today. First, the 1883 with cents Liberty nickel; Obverse Reverse So... What's up with this coin? The rim, while worn, also looks a bit... Off.

Nice purchase, Humanist! The rim looks off probably from normal circulation wear.
