Been a while since I've posted on the board, but wanted to be sure to congratulate tdziemia and Spence for the publishing of their latest collaborative effort in Volume VIII of KOINON: The International Journal of Classical Numismatic Studies: https://archaeopresspublishing.com/...sue/view/138

The new article, which I just read, is titled "Survey of the 11th Century Use of Christian Saints' Names and Images on European Coins," and it is a follow-up to their earlier study in 2023's Volume VI, which surveyed earlier (pre-AD 1000) coinage featuring saints.

As one might expect, Ted and Dave's research is thorough, and the article is well-written and organized. It begins with an explanation of their research methodology, followed by the data (organized by region), as well as observations about how the results compare to the numbers and presentations of saints on earlier emissions. They then provide historical context (political and cultural developments) that accounts for decreases in some regions and upticks in others.

It's an impressive study and a fun read. Makes me wonder if they'll continue the collaboration with future studies devoted to "saint coinage" through the late-medieval period.

Well done, fellows!

Thx for those kind words Bob--it has been fun performing this research with @tdz. After the 11th Century, the use of saints in numismatics may be too expansive for us to easily catalog. We will have to see...

Just in case folk purchase the entire volume of KOINON VII, be sure to check out the series of new discoveries located immediately after our paper. With co-authors Julian Wünsch and Lloyd W. H. Taylor, a total of nine new coins are described. Bob details two finds, a Tet likely from Elymais and an exceedingly rare Tet from Mesopotamia, perhaps minted at Antioch.

Thanks very much, Bob.
Since joining CCF you and Dave have provided a lot of inspiration (not to mention collaboration ... probably some other -ations I can't think of for the moment) to reach this point!
