Hi

I have this very nice looking silver coin from Tibet.
This coin is 26mm, 3.03g.

Tibet---Ga-Den-Tangka---Is-Date-Correct-+-Weight-?
Tibet---Ga-Den-Tangka---Is-Date-Correct-+-Weight-?

It seems that the correct ref is https://en.numista.com/15217 (1840-1930)
The ref shows that this coin should be heavier significantly so 4.6g.

I assume that weight can vary however such big difference is little bit suspicious. On the other hand I've checked some refs on Zeno (however slightly different types) with lower weight, as far as I remember the lowest was around 3.35g.

I'm also trying to determine the correct date of this coin.
I tried to use https://creounity.com/apps/time_mac....php&lang=en to check the correct date however it really challenging.

If I'm correct the date should be determined with year cycle so I guess that the below part should show it.

Tibet---Ga-Den-Tangka---Is-Date-Correct-+-Weight-?

Tibet---Ga-Den-Tangka---Is-Date-Correct-+-Weight-?

It was hard to pick the correct ones from the digit's table but my first shot was
1457 and to my surprise the result shows as 1863... I still doubt that I'm correct here though...

In theory it matches the 1840-1930 period but I'd appreciate any assistance from more experience collectors on this :)

Here is mine and is 'almost identical' to the OPs coin above with one exception. One of hte characters has extra dots in the center when compared to the Numista example.

This Numista page is identical to the OPs coin mine has one tiny difference (circled on the image below that I got from Numista

Here's mine. I've never really delved into the symbology. I assume that "CN" refers to cupronickel, although Numista only lists silver examples.

Hondo, I see that your coin is not dated precisely, the range is 1899-1907.

As far as I understand the precise date can be read from characters that I had initially posted.
Maybe You know how to decipher these characters here?

I don't know what the codes grading companies use are - but I suspect this isn't for cupronickel. More likely to indicate that it falls under the classification for China now.

I have a good few of these - about 25 or so. If I get the time I might do a thread delving deep into what is going on with the design. The exact date is not on any of these coins. The reverse says "dga'-ldan pho-brang-phyod-las-rnam-rgyal" (The Palace of Ga-den is victorious in all directions) where the text has been split into 8 segments. The Ga-den Palace is a poetic way of saying "the government of Tibet".

@Bacchus2, it would be great to read more details regarding these coins. I wonder if You could help with the weight doubt from my initial post. My coin is lighter than is should be (at least according to the Numsita ref). My coin is 3.03g vs. 4.6g on refs (the lightest found on Zeno was 3.35g though).

Zeno has reports of them as low as 2.8. Yours appears a bit cruder in manufacture - likely a very late one with reduced silver.

That would be correct, it is indeed a little bit cruder looking, that's why I was a little bit suspicious at first. Now, it all looks fine. Many thanks for Your support on this Bacchus2 :)
