The bummer thing?
You served our country with Honor!
You deserve it!
Unlike the slugs that just mooch off govn't benny's.
Maybe the year will give you a minute to see clearly what door has now opened to you?
Knowing who you are on this forum...I feel confident you'll be ok!
God Bless you Brother!
Yeah, I took 2 weeks off in December - after 4 days I wished I had long hair to pullout (I can grow it long but choose to trim it to ¼ inch or less.
I got used to having a job - one I had ever since I was 18 - now I'll have nobody to tell me what I need to do - HEY!!

wait a minute!! that might be a good thing!

Thanks Smat!

Just saw this. Sorry to hear about your department and job. Seems like you made a good decision about SSDI. At least now you have a year to decide whether you want to do something different before finally retiring. I know you'll land on your feet.
yeah, I will, not too big of a fall - just a huge upset in my daily routine
thanks Zurie

After working for the same printing company for 25 years, the whole plant closed, with 10 days' notice, back in 2014.
About 100 employees instantly looking for a job.
I was 60 years old at the time. Getting another job with the same skills would mean relocating, easier said than done.
I exited my previous career in radio back in 1992. By then, the industry had sapped ALL enjoyment from the notoriously low-paying job, and by 2014, it had changed so much that I would be viewed as an old, OJT trainee, so that was out, too.
It really stinks to have the rug pulled unexpectedly out from under you when you're an old fart.
Sorry to hear about this, Dearborn. Hope you regain your footing better than I have.
Yeah, I was hoping that I was the one to pull that rug. I'm a heck of a lot better off than the others in my department - they didn't plan for something like this (I did thankfully) and they are all much younger than me, so for them the job search is a must. I at least have choices.
I have over 13 grand in my checking account, over 16 K in my savings account, and 50K in a CD that will mature in 12 months, on top of that, I have my VE Disability pension of 4.1K (tax free) every month for the rest of my life
AND my Mother (God bless her) is sending me another 10K to have (for emergencies)
I also have Free Medical (for EVERYTHING) and free medication for life too.
Which makes me wonder if I need to sign up for Medicaid in 2 years or not

So for now, I'm good, and good with my decision to file for SSDI (which will be the amount that I would have gotten if I went to full retirement in 5 years.)
