Please help me on what I'm looking at. Both is 69 S but why is one looks larger on the photo of lincoln and ears so much bigger. Thanks   |

I think it's circulation flattening on the coin on right. Just my opinion!!

The "S" mint mark seems lower on the cent to the right.

Mint marks were placed by hand back then--their position can (and will) vary.

The mint mark can be anywhere in that triangle below the date and right of the jacket to be acceptable.
The mint workers weren't exact everytime they hand punched a mint mark in the die.

The OP is not asking about the mm. As already stated, the ear is larger from circulation flattening. Please read the OP's statement in full before replying....

the ear is larger on the cent on the right due to maybe several factors, die wear (these coins were struck by different die sets) and circulation, the one on the right has lots of flattening on the high points (the ear).

Thanks everyone. Does the one on the right look like a DDO? Liberty especially the Y? and the 9's on the date one looks thicker then the other. hmm I just caught that. maybe? lol |
