I was lucky to find this token recently and was wondering if its been played with in terms of cleaning, and whether it's worth sending off to be graded.

The obverse is much brighter than the reverse, while the reverse is toned except for a band on the 12 o'clock to 3 o'clock position on the word Australia.

The coin does not look like it's whizzed, and if it was dipped I would assume both sides should look the same.

I don't want to send the token off, wait five months, and just get a Details declaration.

Comments welcome.

It looks like something may have been sitting on it at some point to prevent it toning evenly.

That being said, it is a nice example!

Really not sure that colouring is "market acceptable" toning and would suspect you'd end up with a Details grade. Circulated copper turning bright orange is often a sign of old cleaning, with perhaps the obverse showing some re-toning has taken place.

Looks cleaned to me. That bright orange color is not a good sign.

Thank you for the replies. Yes, it does look like it was cleaned and then almost completely retoned on one side. Perhaps it was kept in an old Dansco or similar cardboard folder.
