Hello, Would like to get your thoughts on this 1865. Really don't know about this one other than die cracks on the rev. May be enviromental damage? Don't really know. Thanks.

to CCF.

It looks like you have a very long scratch on the reverse, and lots of corrosion growing on this cent.

Are you sure that this is not a reproduction?

Looks like a real coin, the so-called "fancy 5" variety. It's a high-grade example with XF (or better) detail, but unfortunately with severe corrosion. The long scratch adds to the impairment.

Appears to be genuine. Just severely corroded and scratched on the reverse. Might have been a metal detector find. I do see the Die Crack on the reverse.

While damaged and corroded, this is a Snow variety with a full bisecting die crack on the reverse. Perfect match to Snow-7.

Good to know. I'm glad I was wrong. Thank you for that information, RedRaider.

Given the coins condition, it is not worth much at all. A few bucks tops. In high grade and problem free, this variety could command a premium to the right collector. Just too damaged to pass for a premium.

Thanks. I thought it was some type of enviromental damage, but I do agree that it looks like solder or something. Thanks all for the replies.

It appears to be a die crack as mentioned above.

Notice that it goes UNDER the letters E, N, and the other E rather than "through" them.

True - but if you look closely it is a "Planchet Crack" - not a "Die Crack". Could that have been from the heat applied to the cent? I only bring up the questions - you all can figure them out!
