What do you guys think is going on with the 8th and 9th column? Along with the steps in the 2nd and 3rd column. I don't know if it would be Die Deterioration or it just not being struck flush? Just trying to learn over here, so thank you in advance.

I'm thinking that it's just the result of over polishing the die to get rid of a Die Clash. https://www.error-ref.com/thinning-...gn-elements/

How would die polishing make the column smaller? If anything it would make the incuse part of the die bigger by taking metal away from the walls. Or am I thinking backwards?

Not at all but think about how easily that polishing tool would slip down into that lower area while polishing the higher areas.

Then that would have made the column bigger, right?

Probably but not that can be seen looking straight at it, but it would have erased the design, which it did. If you look at it closely, you can see some chunkiness to it. You have to remember this area between the two affected spots are tapered too and the levels on the coin will vary slightly as a result.
