I set out to build a year-by-year collection of uncirculated Morgan dollars a few years ago. I purchased this 1893-S Morgan dollar from a dealer who was going out of business. I did not know how scarce the year and mint mark of this coin was at the time. While recently reviewing my collection, I realized that this particular coin is quite rare.

My questions are:

* Does this coin appear to be authentic?
* Would it be considered uncirculated?

Thank you in advance for your time and insights.

Yes, it is genuine but it is not uncirculated.
Would still be worth getting graded as there were only 100,000 struck.

It's definitely counterfeit. There was only one obverse die used for the 1893-S, and the date position on this coin is not that. Also, the mintmark position is too high for either reverse dies for that date. Not to mention it would be a $400,000 coin if genuine.

The lettering on the reverse does not look right. Most letters have an "indent" on the base that doesn't look right to me.

Sadly a counterfeit. Almost had a heart attack for a moment.

Definite counterfeit. Date font completely wrong and most likely other stuff. Just zoom in on details at PCGS coinfacts for same coin and make comparisons.

Quite the divot at the top of the liberty cap and the circular thingie at the bottom of the head wreath doesn't look right either.
