Found this fella while I was taking a closer look at a coin whose 2x2 had been labelled "Not Good As A Collectors Item". I don't know much about errors so I thought I'd see what folks think. I tried flipping the coin end-for-end when I took pictures. I expected to see something on both sides. I couldn't make out a date but it looks like 18?.

I'm thinking Vise Job. Does not look like a Brockage error. PMD, not an error. https://www.error-ref.com/squeeze-j...-garage-job/ https://www.error-ref.com/brockage-full/

Vise Job

That's the first I've heard of that one. Thanks E&V. I knew it wasn't a full brockage but the incuse lettering had me fooled I guess. I probably should have weighed it too.

Thanks!

I have to agree. A fun example to keep for reference though.

Thanks jbuck - I plan on adding a note to the 2x2 "Vise job!"

Pretty neat example of a "messed with" coin.

Any idea what type of "blank" was used as the target of the vise job? I will weigh it tomorrow and post the result. The one side is blank and the thing seems to have some sort of a rim albeit disfigured or maybe just the result of the vise job. It is a very curious item indeed.

The weight is 3.22g and diameter is 19.34-19.58 mm which is consistent with either indian head or Lincoln Cent. I find it interesting that the original target seems to have been a blank of the right size and weight to match the coin used for imprinting. I wish I had a way of using XRF to look at composition. It's a keeper for me for sure.
