Hello, fellow coin fanatics. I've been a bit burnt out from spending a lot of funds towards my usual collections that I am always working on. I've been searching for some coins to collect that are easy to complete, won't break the bank too much, and still interesting IMO in terms of collectability.

Several people, including jbuck, have suggested I should try an Eisenhower dollar set, so I decided to finally give it a go. Awhile back, however, I also had the beginnings of a Susan B Anthony dollar collection started. It kind of fizzled a little bit as I focused on other things, and I ended up selling the album and coins to a friend. However, I kept the most obtainable coin for myself, the 81 Type 2 proof.

I was thinking about it recently how I wish I still had a SBA collection. It kind of goes back further with me, as when I was younger, I had a nearly full collection of them that I kept in a Dansco coin stock album. I had all coins, with the exception of the 79 type 2 proof and 81 type 2 proof.

That said, this is what I got started with recently

As you may have seen in my other recent thread, got this recently from ebay.

I took a little venture to the coin store today while I was out and about just to get started. I came out with 3 clad Ike dollars under 10 bucks. Not too shabby.

I think the 74-D was UNC/BU, but the others were circulated.

Got home and loaded them up into the album.

This SBA dollar collection I actually purchased for a decent price recently on ebay, which had 11 coins in it already. Considering the albums generally cost 30-45 dollars by themselves new, I paid 60 for everything including shipping and I don't think that was too bad at all for both the album and all the coins.

This is also a slightly older album from the looks of it.

All these coins were already in the album. Good start for me.

page 2 - all these were already there, with the exception of the 81 type 2 proof coin.

The scratching is on the album slide, and not the actual coin itself for the 81 type 1 proof.

All in all, not too bad I think for a day's work.

Great start - hoping to see your progress on these sets as you gain the coins.

Great start, Humanist! IIRC, the Ikes that are tough to get in acceptable condition are the 1971 and 1972 P & D, as they were not included in mint sets.

Great start. Glad you held back the 81-S type 2. The SBA album pages are all the newest style, the older ones didn't have the 1999 ones or the different 1979 near and far date spots.

Thanks everyone.

The Ike dollars are definitely a very interesting series. I'm glad I got into them! They look very nice in the album and it's kind of a nice change to see some larger coins in my collection.

Me too, seamonkey. Yeah, it's not like super old. I think the give away is the fact that it doesn't have the dates on it. Most newer Dansco albums usually do.
Yeah, I've seen some of the older SBA albums on ebay and to be honest, they are kind of hideous the way they are laid out IMO.

Well Humanist, you inspired me and I found a used Ike 8176 for $28 with free shipping that looked nice so I ordered it. New one is like $42.

Swap the front slide with the back slide so you won't see it as much

Am I a bad influence?

Yeah, I will do that. One of the downsides of Dansco albums IMO, the fact that the slides get scratched ridiculously easy.

The Ike collection is an easy one to put together and not at very high prices either.
I'm not sure if you saw my Ike Dansco album, if not here it is: https://goccf.com/t/395594

I did! Wonderful collection, Dearborn.

Yes, prices don't seem to be too crazy with Ike dollars. At the local coin dealer this weekend, they had a box full of Ike's for 2 dollars a piece.
Granted, they were just circulated business strikes, but this is a great, cheap way to get started.

I bought a used Dansco IHC album that was missing some of the slides. I found this seller on ebay.

The slides were perfect to fix the album.
