I tried and tried, but the pictures don't do it justice. There is a raised line that runs through the entire Monticello.

Seeing it's raised it would probably be some sort of die dent or die gouge. Doesn't look like Feeder Finger Damage.

A struck through would be incuse, not raised.
It is either a die dent or die gouge.

Didn't one of our resident error experts once comment that nickels had large die dents for a few years? No cause was determined.

Edit: I found a FB post where someone posted a chat snippet from Mike Diamond. He said they are most likely hubbed in filaments, and gave a link to an article he wrote. Unfortunately, the link is not readable in the screen cap. I assume it was from Coin World. He also mentioned an author named Alexander Bradley who was writing an article on the phenomenon for Errorscope.

The Errorscope 2022 table of contents contained:

Quote:
A Recent Increase in Occurences Of Hubbed-In Debris, An Otherwise Rare Die Error
By Alexander B. Bradley

Hubbed-in Debris (HID hereafter) is a hypothesized die error that involves the accidental introduction of foreign material into the hubbing press during die manufacture. Such accidents are not likely to make it past inspection and are probably rare to begin with owing to the controlled conditions in which dies are produced.
