Hello, fellow coin geeks. I've been toying with doing a Roosevelt dime collection for awhile now on and off. I have attempted several times, but gave up as something didn't quite resonate for whatever reason. Feeling frustrated, I actually decided to try a new approach and go all in this time. I recently ordered a Dansco 8125, along with nearly 100 clad Roosevelt dimes from ebay in BU/proof to get started! I had the album, along with an order of proofs which I had bought separately. However, my 60 BU/mint packs came in today finally. I had ordered around 30 clad proofs from 1968-1992 as well. Here is what my morning looked like so far. Dansco 8125 - Got this from Wizardcoinsupply, per usual. If you wanna do the complete set of Rosie's, I recommend this route as you can indeed find cheaper albums used on ebay, but they are almost always missing pages which will also cost more to purchase. This album is 7 pages long and has ports up until 2034-P

I broke everything out and loaded the album up! So far, everything I have is starting at 1968. The seller I purchased the proofs from mislabeled the 71-S and it was actually a 79-S. Argh. Ah well. For now, I stuck the extra 79 in the type ll slot. This is the page where the silver proofs start, and I don't have any of those quite yet.

Unfortunately, also, a few of the proofs that were sent to me had an unpleasant spotting/toning appearance to them. I don't really mind toning so much if it looks good, but this, IMO, doesn't. This one is pretty bad. Poor FDR lost his mouth. Lol. My goal is to do all coins if possible BU, or as close as I can come to that. It might not be entirely budget-friendly for me with some of the older, silver coins. But, we shall see! So far, I'm pretty happy how this has turned out and look forward to purchasing more coins in the future!

Despite the few iffy proofs, looking good!

Thanks, jbuck! I am excited to continue! This is a very nice series IMO with a TON of coins in it, none of which are super expensive, with the exception of some of the older proofs possibly. Luckily, those aren't required in the album.

I like how lightweight the album is. The dimes to not add much to the total.

Very nice start and a fun album to fill. BTW...I know cleaning coins is a huge no no, but you will find with clad proofs that it can be done to make the coin look like it did originally if you do not over dip it (MS-70). A very few second dip with immediate rinse may very well get rid of the spots etc. you showed. If not...no loss. And the proof clads, even if you did overdip them, are not hard or costly to replace.
The hobby says never to clean coins b/c most people will ruin good coins by trying to "make them shiny" b/c newbies think shiny means valuable. Coin grading companies will accept "dipped" coins if it is done correctly meaning they do not lose market value. Practice on some dirty clad uncirculated dimes for an idea of how long "too ling" is. Like I said, generally about 3-4 seconds and rinse. You can do 1-2 seconds and rinse then redip for another 1-2 to see if ti works.

Thanks, everyone! Earle42, personally, for me, it's not really worth it. These proof clad Roosevelt dimes are so cheap. For example, it was really bugging me that I didn't have the 71-S because of the ebay seller mix-up. Well, I was able to find a whole "set" of BU 71 coins that had mint pack P&D and then the S proof for under 5 dollars. Like, that's crazy. I had to order them. Not sure when they'll be here.

Yes! I also feel somewhat accomplished, in some weird regard, as now I have sets/Dansco albums being worked on in all current denominations (to a degree) with the exception of the half dollar. Cents nickels dimes quarters dollars But yeah, no half dollars. I tried a Kennedy half dollar set once and it was kind of boring, so I gave up on it. I wouldn't mind doing something maybe one day like a Barber half dollar or Franklin half dollar set... But these would cost some money. I prefer series that aren't dominated by all silver coins and don't have expensive key dates in them. That is, rather, a lot of them.

At least the Franklin half dollar set is a short one. Five coins short of two Dansco pages if you exclude the proofs.
