I am a little bored tonight so I start going through my world coin bins to see if any might have errors or die cracks (I am starting to REALLY like die cracks)

I found this 20 cent piece and the lettering in Twenty Cents has doubling.

opinions please?

Machine Doubling or judging by the N in CENTS Die Deterioration.

Interesting to see that it has the same rail-roading rim like one I found from 1993.

I might think Die Deterioration too, but then again...I see some separation in doubling in areas.
Also, DD reflects the outward forces exerted on the die upon striking, so the devices are worn towards the rim.
Here, we see the deterioration toward the inside of the devices--why is that?
I would have to see the coin to be sure, but I'm leaning towards a doubled die, which can look very different depending on the die making process.

I would be willing to send it to you to see what you think of it? If its not too much trouble of course.

Hi Malissadawn! you requested for an opinion, so here's my 5 centavos worth... it's a doubled die. The doubling is consistent and symetrical on the entire " Twenty Cents" and has the largest doubling segment at letter "E" of the word "cent", also the "N" of "cent" (as it is diagonal to the direction of the offset of the die), shows doubling on it's left upper tip and along underneath it's diagonal line.

I would doubt deterioration, as it cannot be symetrical, and you did take time to post all those close-up pictures, and because of that, the symetry showed.

just an opinion, that's a great coin to have in a collection

Malissa, you probably have enough confirmation on this coin, so don't feel you have to mail it to me.
