I have no problem with coin roll searching - the high turnover makes searching minimally impacting on my budget. But currency is just too valuable!

I made a list of Federal Reserve Notes that I've found by asking for "obsolete currency" at banks. I didn't include $2 red seals, or $1/5 blue seals. I am aware of their low value, but still enjoy saving them.

Here are the bills (all FRNs). All notes are average circulated unless specified.

Hundreds:
34 A

Twenties:
28 (FRN #2 - NY)
34 A
34 C (poor)
34 D star (poor)
50 (poor)

Tens:
50
50 C
63 A (x3)

I will probably have some fun spending these FRNs (except the '28 $20.) What would you do with these bills? Spend or keep?

A bank nearby has a cache of old-style notes - however, most are of recent vintage, with only a few dating back to even the 50's. I asked them to check for any non-FRNs and "numbered" Fed Seal (pre-gold) FRNs, but there are none there.

You are very lucky to have a bank like that.
My vote it to keep them, but I am a money pack-rat.

I'd keep anything older than the 80s. If you really need the money, I say sell or spend the worse condition notes first.

Thanks for the quick reply. I don't desperately need the money right now, but perhaps if I do have the dire need for funds, I will at least try to sell them to another collector. I've found that while spending common money like halves and $2 bills garners a big reaction, spending 90's vintage old-style notes doesn't even get a second glance. I'd hate for a 50's era note to have the same demise. Thanks for your advice!
Rest in Peace

You are indeed lucky to have a friendly bank like that. I asked at my bank once if they had any obsolete notes and the teller told me yes but I couldn't have them. They were being saved for a "good" customer. What am I, chopped liver? I've been with them for 10 years. Anyway, another time I saw a few silver halves in the teller tray. I asked if I could have them. Same answer. Needless to say, I now keep this place as my dump bank.

Just hit my "special" bank today. Teller there is awesome - a guy of about 25 who obviously is oblivious to currency collecting. First of all, he saves the older bills for me (and has over a grand worth of them! ridiculous!) Then, even with people in line, he proceeded to look through to find non-FRNs (of which there were two) and then to find the crispest, oldest bills. Then, he said I could trade some back to him for different ones. Had an Ike in stock to boot. As I found out above, none of these are particularly valuable, but they're still a fun find.

I will try to get some pics up soon.

Thanks,
