Something fun to do when looking through the bucket of old silver dollars at the coin store.

I'm happy to see the themes of this thread.
I try to push the "Circulated coins are cool" idea as much as possible, but the MS/PCGS/NGC enthusiasts just scroll to the next post.
Those PO/Fair/AG coins really did circulate and were USED for their intent.
I would want real circulated pieces however - not pocket pieces that have been worn down over the years. To me, the main way to tell if a coin was in average circulation is if the wear is uneven. As someone pointed out above, the date seemed better preserved than the rest of the coin - that's a good sign it actually got its wear from circulation/commerce.

Since my 1890 CC Morgan graded G was too good, I figured I have to post something really junkie, even if it's not a Morgan and not a silver dollar. This an a 1902 P Barber Half graded AG. I think it's about the worst I can do. I can't find any really bad Morgans.

Hi Napoleon31ft;
I have been following this thread with interest, and you have me caught up in the spirit of it! I have access to the following dates that fit your criteria. They are in the junk dollar bin of my local coin store.
1879 1886 o 1888 o 1890 o 1896 o 1899 0 1900 o
Her prices are a bit pricey for this (lack of) quality, but since you are looking for specialty pieces you might be interested. I will bring my camera to the shop and photograph any dates that you might be interested in. The cost would be $14 each including shipping, with a discount in the shipping possible if you want multiples. Let me know!

The 1879 is intriguing me. Just how bad is it?

Funny you ask about that one, as I almost didn't include it as it might have been a hair too good! I will stop by the store tomorrow and take a photo of it for you.

It seems that the O mints wear more. Or were just used more. Anyways I am finding plenty of O mints so those are not a problem.

You could take the G-4s and put them in the dryer with some rocks.

Want to really make it a challenge? Get them all slabbed by PCGS. We have a customer that now holds the PCGS title for lowest grade set and there are a few coins that he's having a terrible time finding under VG. We buy Morgans and Peace dollars constantly and I put any extremely worn or holed coins to the side. The worn ones for the PCGS set guy and the holed for another customer. Best of luck in your endeavor.
