JayDon62 Valued Member United States 138 Posts	Posted 07/25/2009 8:41 pm Yeah the fees suck I know, but try putting an ad in the newspaper, or have a yard sale, or whatever and you would be lucky to get $15 for that item not $57.77. You are paying the outrageous fees to have 1 million+ pairs of eyes look at it. I hate the ebay fees, but I know for a fact items I would be lucky to get $5 for, sell for $80 or more. I had a set of 1954 UNC Canadian coins that I couldn't give away and got over $80 from a very satisfied French Canadian guy. Report this Post to the Staff

With the email Paypal sent me was a BS explanation why they viewed the transaction as "risky" for both the buyer and seller. 1) the transaction was over $100.00. 2) I had less than a specified amount of transactions as a seller in a specified amount of time and some other nonsense that didn't apply to this transaction. I am a casual seller on ebay, but have been a member for 10 years. Paypal sent a recommendation to ship asap to increase the chance of me getting my money in the near future. There were 3 scenarios. 1) paypal releases my money after 21 days if no dispute. 2) Paypal releases my money 3 days after delivery receipt (USPS tracking) if no dispute. 3) Paypal releases my money 1 day after Buyer leaves positive feedback. I couldn't exactly claim nonpayment since ebay owns Paypal and the money was there. If I didn't ship then I would look bad as a seller because the buyer sent his money and I didn't hold up my end of the deal (and it wasn't the buyers fault). What really got to me was I've been a member of ebay twice as long as the buyer and had more feedback (100%), I paid them everything they made off this transaction (total fees $28.51 Paypal & ebay) and left me hanging out to dry. If the buyer claimed I didn't ship then his money would be returned and I'd been out 1/3 oz of gold. If any newbies to selling on ebay....take heed. Sell a bunch of low dollar stuff and get your seller feedback up before you try to sell gold! ebay don't care about you because there's another seller around the corner to take your place! That's basically the bottom line. We can be upset all we want but at the end of the day, if you left ebay, in the big scope of things, it does not even matter. I will sell a couple hundred item and then life takes over and I no longer have time to devote to it I too dislike the fees, but what are you going to do about it? Right now, they are the only place in town. The best defense to it all is to find your merchandise at ridiculously low prices and sell it stupid high. Good in theory, I know. It works for me though. About a year and a half ago (or so) I purchased a train collection for about $450.00 One piece out of that collection netted me $400.00 (after ebay fees) I sold off about 10 or so more pieces and got another $400.00 The big dealers on ebay, buy their stuff in such bulk lots that as long as they get a buck or two profit, they are happy. The last collection I bought, I paid roughly 2500.00 for it. If I can sell half of it and get 1.00 profit in my pocket, I will double my money (with ease mind you) ebay seems like they are trying to push out the little guy sellers. The big dealers and sellers get assessed lower fees If you don't like ebay fees, try going to a larger more reputable auction house. I think the going rate around me is 15-25% Plus the auction house charges anywhere from 10-12% buyers premium. Another direction to go, is start selling on ebay, then build your own website. Every chance you get, push ebay customers toward you website. (you can tell people about it in the about me section too) My one buddy sells decals on ebay. Every customer he sells to, gets a flyer (or email) telling them about his website. He now has more business on the website than ebay. That doesn't change the merchant fees through credit cards and or paypal. This is a project where ebay really works well. I have picked up all of the parts I needed. I did make sure to keep my bids under $100 to benefit the sellers. Used my credit card on record with Paypal for approximately 4 years. Was told that I had to verify my account because I exceeded my spending limit.They told me that by doing so I would speed up the buying process and be protected. Sounded good, so I fall for it hook line and sinker. A few years go by and I get a love letter from the bank...a $39 dollar fee for being .50 cents short in my account. Well so much for checking. Anyway I called paypal and they give me a big run around on any explanation. I'm telling them I'm not going to cancel my checking account and just use my credit card like I've done for years. They also tell me I can just use my card. Not True cause I took my checking account off I can't use paypal even though my credit account is verified. They only do that because they don't want to pay credit card fees. Report this Post to the Staff

Sold an item for $185 today, paypal and ebay fees racked up to about $21 and then I still had to pay for shipping. However, even with that loss, I still make more money than selling on craigslist or at a garage sale. So if they make me the most money and take a profit for it, so be it. Bryan1315 Bedrock of the Community United States 14454 Posts	Posted 10/21/2012 2:28 pm like I said in another topic if you are in the US and you buy on ebay you get ebay bucks for your purchases to spend on ebay so unlike the big auction houses that charge the buyers for purchasing for their sellers ebay does at least keep the buyers there by giving them these ebay bucks, and the more they spend the more ebay bucks they get. I think the ebay fees are a little high but there have been allot of others try to push ebay out and I believe all of them have either failed miserably or are barely holding on. So ebay definitely has the buyers and that keeps bringing the sellers and I don't see that changing any time soon Report this Post to the Staff
