Be interesting to see the rims up close and if the Obverse and Reverse are in the right positions. We've already seen an altered coin to make it appear as something it wasn't. I will be interested in seeing the results from Ken on this one.

That's right coop. Remember the 1995 WAM & rotated reverse LMC I found? I wonder if the 1992 could be an un proofed proof ?

Quote: numismo...I wonder if the 1992 could be an un proofed proof ? Do you mean struck with Dies that were not highly polished? Even if they weren't highly polished, Proof Dies should still have the " Wide AM" Reverse! Frank

I will be interested in seeing the results from Ken on this one. Yes I thought about that also so I put the coin in a 2x2 and it is exactly head toe as it should be. I only have a 16x loupe but I could see no signs of tampering on either the inside edge or outside of the rim. I only have a scanner to take pictures or I would post some of the rim/inside lip. If anyone has any suggestions on how to do this on the scanner I would be more than willing to try, but hurry up as I am sending the coin off tommorrow afternoon(lunch hour) to Ken. I also just noticed as I reexamined the coin there appears to be light doubling in the "RICA" of America. Possibly due to Die Deterioration. I also noticed it has the (none tech term) thingy with the doubled rim deterioration, so I would guess it is LDS. Kie

Frank I see you also figured out how to update your age, I was going to e-mail you later since I figured out all you have to do is follow the instructions.

If the coin is an LDS coin then there should be many, many more out there. I wish I had a better image of the edge of a coin that has been tampered with to show what it would look like if it was tampered with. I guess that will be a project to look for images to make an educational image collage.

Kie Kie, I kind of accomplished the task through trial and error but it worked! I wonder if it really had more to with me needing to act my' age! Frank

Kie,
I see that you are a Master Chief in the Navy! I had two brother-in-laws that were in the Navy. They both have passed. Clancy retired with a little over 22 years in 1968 and passed last year from Heart Failure. Larry retired with over 23 years in the mid-80's and passed in 2000 from Agent Orange Cancer from Vietnam (I think he served two and a half years there working out of the Tan Son Nhat Air Force Base).

Was going to post on coppercoins to get chucks opinion, but photobucket is beyond my skills. The link below is a crop from my original scan that shows the doubling look at it and see what you think. It is not very clear but I think you can see the extra lines on the top of the letters to the south. If it is actually doubling then this could be any die state? The coin is very crisp and slightly off center to the south on the reverse(based on the rim. Also I weighed the coin 2.5g on my MX-300SE Taschenwaage pocket scale(it passed cal just prior to weigh in). I looked at numismo's pictures and the rim of my coin does not look like that. The coin is still bright red with rainbow toning that doesn't show on the scanner. Frank sorry for your loss, that is one thing that is keeping me from retirement, someone somewhere did a poll and the typical submariner only lasts about 5 years after they retire. Say the lack of daily stress kills them, the longest lived usually get jobs that continue to be very stressful. Not my cup of tea. My uncle retired from the Army after 20+ years in the 80"s, he lasted until 2002, complications from Nam. He was stationed in Germany in the 60's for a while in the vehicle pool I think, I will have to ask my cousin about it. Kie

Well, I know that it is really hard to tell Die Stage for the coin without better pictures! However, from what I can tell, there appears to be little to no Die Markers on the coin that would suggest anything other than Early to possibly Mid-Die Stage!

We were pretty close as Clancy and my sister pretty much raised me after my parents divorced and until I received my Draft Notice. Larry was my fishing buddy for many years and we would always go Trout fishing every time we came home on leave at the same time. As things go, raising our' own families, work and just the hectic pace of life kept us from doing more together the last 15 to 20 years. I know how you feel about retiring! However, I plan to replace my work with coins, guns, hunting and Gold/Gem Prospecting. Hopefully this will keep me busy enough to negate the stress and pace I have at work! It may not be but it is better than getting heart dropsy (I don't mean to offend anyone that actually has this syndrome but jokingly this is where you drop down on your' butt and don't have the heart to get up) and the inactivity kills you. Frank
