Nurves to post any pics on here anymore. Seems like everything get shot down. But no matter what anyone says about a coin I post I still like them and will keep them. So here are 2 free coins my son-in-law sent me. I think AU but everyone might think Good. 1918 AND 1909 v.d.b.

Hmmmm..while I havnt witnessed the earlier posts , what you describe sure doesn't sound like this forum.Sorry to hear you felt agreived or received anything but helpful comment. I cant recall a time when anyones pics were shot down, doesn't happen..i didnt think so anyway.Theres a lot of Lincoln Cent fans too...seems odd.

Like Wetglaswegian says, most comments on this forum seem friendly and helpful to me. Your photos could be larger and have better resolution, but these Two Cents certainly appear at least AU. The '09-VDB is probably a red-brown, mint state coin. The numerical grade will depend on surface quality and contact marks and I would need better images of obverse and reverse to pick a number. I presume you have already been welcomed to CCF, but it can't hurt to do it again!

Its cool Mike , always weird in a new forum.People initially seem cliquey or stand offish..just join in and youll see it isn't really so. Worth a look is the excellent photography section. My pics were woeful when I got here , I'm far from expert but I do a halfway decent job of it now, probably too good for my own good as magnification from photos reveals many sins.

I think what Mike is saying is that his photos were "shot down" as being common Machine Doubling or post mint damage, not the valuable variety or error he thought he had. Even photos of a "bad" example are a great learning tool! You have to see the good and the bad to compare; one needs to see examples of what is and is not a genuine variety or error. That said, your pictures are still valuable to everyone here. Keep the coming!

If it wasn't for people like you Mike, I would not have anywhere near the knowledge of US coins that I do now. All of you who post your pictures asking questions helps me out as well. As you learn, so do many more of us from your questions.

Don't get discouraged Mike. I posted lots of hoped for ddos before I started to see what they really looked like. The members that know about these things aren't mean-they're just telling you how it is. A great way to learn. Keep looking and you will find some of the real deals.

I think what you are describing as being shot down is people trying to educate you on what you are seeing. I have seen a few of your posts where you described something as being double die when in fact it was only Machine Doubling (which carries no premium) and have seen others try to educate you (which is what forums like this is for to share knowledge) and in no way was they trying to tell you they are nothing but junk or anything. People are encouraged to collect what ever they like its just when members here see something described wrongly they are quick to let you know the correct term because you would be amazed how many ebay sellers are selling Die Deterioration or Machine Doubling as double die coins and unsuspecting buyers are buying them to only find out they have been had because their Machine Doubling Lincoln Cent they paid big money for is only worth 1 cent. Please don't take the education part of the forum as criticism because thats now how it was meant to be taken

Mike,
All that "shooting down" just makes an inevitable victory more satisfying ... and it could come at any time! They are out there and if you remain diligent and continue learning the difference, you will find one, then another. I've seen it many times on this forum (myself included).

Those look to both be nice cents! You just need to work on your photography, then we'll be able to give you some accurate grades. Even if you don't want grades, we still like to see nice, pretty pictures of Lincolns.

You might be pleasantly suprised here The color of the 1909VDB is a strong indicator that it is an MS coin, mint red quickly fades to brown with a little bit of circulation. The 1918 may also be fully MS but the glare obscures too much of the coin to be certain. You might want to reshoot these two coins with both sides so we could get a better idea of an actual grade. It really doesn't matter whether they are AU55/58 or MS64, they are still a nice pair of early Lincolns

If it makes you feel better, I would gladly take them off your hands and add them to my collection, LOL.
I think we all get a little rattled now and then about our posts and sometimes can get upset depending on our mood and time put into finding something we feel is special. If it was not for the 'brutal' advice given here, I would be some ignorant fool that knows nothing about coins. Thanks to this board (that I found by mistake) I have jumped into collecting more and try to educate myself as much as possible and also help others along the way. There are many people here to look to for help and they will gladly give you advice when you need it but sometimes our frustration and confusion comes from a lack of knowing. Some of these guys can look at the coin and tell you the exact die used to make it, the person working the press that day, what they had for breakfast and why it is a perfect coin or just a nice keeper. Keep posting, it educates us all, and by the way, nice examples of the coins, thanks.
