Yeah, that is what has me worried.....and, there are two of them (at least two Daves that I am aware of). Could be more. I will try to be more vigilant and cautious. Thanks for the warning Russ. (One can never be to careful when there might be Daves lurking with potentially insidious intent).

Rest assured, no words escape SuperDave. My intent is quite benign, though, I assure you.

Oh thank goodness, that saves me from blaming Russ for inciting me.

Quote: You may well be right Russ, I know so little about vams, that I thought Thornheads were of seven sub varieties of which a few were rather common, instead of seven specimens extant. You're correct. 1B6 is actually fairly common; I see maybe one a month on ebay. The others are rather difficult.

So, you actually 'do ' read this stuff 'eh?
Yeah, I thought that I remembered that there were several varieties, and quite popular as well. Usually, coins with nicknames seem to invoke popularity. 'Popular' coins is what I would expect lists to comprise, rather than an author's personal favorites.

Quote: 'Popular' coins is what I would expect lists to comprise, rather than an author's personal favorites. The lists are exercises in ego, in my opinion. News flash: Highly intelligent, successful people have egos. Although some varieties have intuitive interest because of some radical error, other list members arrived there due to incomplete information exaggerating their rarity or importance. Of the extant "lists," I only really subscribe to the "Elite Clashed" - all of them are very interesting coins, and I think enough of the total population has been observed so that new highly-clashed varieties will probably be rare discoveries going forward.

the Super CD and the Kimpton 12 are about the only lists I would go for,If I decided to collect a series...or coins with similar attributes, with 230-240 in just 78P variety's I don't intend to fill the list, let alone the 21 dollars...

If you wanna see some 'real' clashes Russ, check out some CBH. That is where the mondo action is.

So I think that we have a general consensus then, the lists are probably self defeating with regard to their original intent.

Ooops, I probably spoke too soon as I had forgotten about non-superDave. Cast an opinion, Nut?

Does everyone realize how ' old ' this thread is?
I guess this is an illustration that with the talent (or whatever a person may call it) that we have assembled here, we can make a ' hit ' out of almost anything (as long as we are not required to remain anywhere near original topic).

Good post Russ, straight to the point, and no "Occam's razor" effect.
