Just saw a 1972 5cent go for $15.59 on ebay. Happy's collection of 342 coins x $15.59 = $5331.78. Makes all that collecting seem worthwhile..

for the past 30 years or so I have been dropping all my change into a container on my desk. it gets regularly raided by myself, wife and kids, but mostly that is for higher value coins. Whenever it fills up, if gets put in a box and stored. I got an old box out over the weekend and sorted it out into 1c, 2c, 5c, 10c and 20c piles (50c have always been treated differently ;-)) - I was surprised just how many 5c I had! Have just started looking through and have 2 x '72 already. have a full set from '66 to '09 except for '86... less than 10% through this lot of 5c and then there are all the other boxes :-( need more time!

finished that first lot - 6 '72's in total... one in very good condition, others various. Now have checked Maccas and realise that the reason I couldn't find any '86 because they were only in mint sets... and seeing that '85 was the same with only mint sets I checked the only one that I had and found it to be a '95! d'oh!!

steve - Oz 50c man great effort, every 10c date was circulated but once you go 20c/50c/$1 there is a lot of non circulated coins, the $2 coin is like the 10c in that there is no mint set only Good luck with the 5c and look for the error coins Wesley

Thanks Wesley - I did put aside a number of 5c error coins - mostly off center, one example (think it was a 2000, they are already in the safe) had no rim at all on one side. I don't really know anything about 5c - are there any particular errors I should keep an eye out for? I am aware of the "sharp claw" / "blunt claw" but haven't really been able to see the difference... have checked all 6 of the '72s I found and none of them were the large / close to the rim at the bottom type.

Quote: every 10c date was circulated Sorry, but that's not correct. 86, 87, 95 and 96 were all Mint Set Only years for 10c. 85 (2m), 91 (4.3m) and 97 (5.7) 10c all had low mintages when compared to other years. $2 for 1991 were also MSO.

Happy's post would suggest that it is very possible to find 72's in circulation. Apart from a couple of Gems, all of mine were found in circulation.
