I agree, looks real enough. have a ANA expert look at it as was mentioned. If it's real no matter the grade you lucked out !

Send this to PCGS or NGC. It looks authentic. The only thing that concerns me as I look at it a second time is the grime around the mm and no where else on the coin as well as the height of the mm. Let us know what the results are

The grime around the mint mark made me take a second look.

Warm up the coin with a lighter, if the D pops off it a fake. Just kidding, looks real to me and I have a 1916-D.

BTW, genuine or not, this one has my curiosity going! Does not look FB from your photos and judging strictly by that, I'd call AU58. Again, let us know. Diagnostically speaking, the inside of the mm looks good.

I joined the PCGS Collectors Club. I'll submit the coin as soon as the membership kit comes. I think I've seen estimates of AU55 and AU58 in this thread, which puts the value around $10k to $11k. Is that about right for declared value for insurance?

Wow...seeing an 16-D in that grade is almost shocking--congrats!

Yes - declare $10K when you ship. You'll have to go with registered mail at that value.

There appears to be more detail on the OP's coin, along with the dark areas being in different areas.

The OP's coin is clearly a better grade--what's the point of asking such a question anyway?
