Hi, does anyone have a cut and dry method on how to identify these 2 varieties?
If you look on page 96 from the newest Charlton they got a picture of the 2 varities, but it doesn't nail down the difference in the least. They look exactly the same.Apparanently the distance from how far the 6 is from the D in Canada is what determines it.
I have 2 5cents pieces in 2 x 2's with a notation I made approx 10 years back indicating they are indeed these 2 varieties, but I don't think I've got it right. They look exactly the same.Sometimes there is some other liitle quirk that helps with issues like this, ie) I point to or between a denticle..stuff like that,.
BTW the far 6 is worth a bit more in value that the near.
Thanks

Are you kidding me Shaftey? That would be so nice.I'd mail them right back to you once I got an understanding of them both, or buy them from you, what ever you prefer.
You should see what Charlton is is indicating for an MS65 grade of the far 6. 500 bucks!

I had the same problem. The more you stare at them under a 10x, the less certain you are. Try this: in the near 6, the distance from the top of the 6 to the D is roughly the width of the tail end of the 6. In the Far 6 its about DOUBLE the width of the tail end. Hope this helps.

Many thanks to SHAFTA9a, got your present today..makes thinkgs much easier to identify when you have both of them in front of you. Tho they are close you can see a small difference.
As it turns out I had 2 examples of the near variety.
Please hang tight while I try to find a few presents to send to you while I attempt to return the favour.Should have it in the mail by this Sunday.
A nice Christmas present indeed!

Thank you, The high 7 ( second 7 ) is obviously higher than the 9.
It appears the second 7 is the indicator as it appears to be even or a tad lower than the 9 in the Low 7.
