Mr T, you alluded to the 2016 mint or baby sets possibly having the small SD (not tiny SD). Can you , or anyone else confirm if this is the case?
I have only ever seen the tiny SDs for 2016 plain and changeover.

I have noticed that in many denominations PCGS assign a unique number and class for issues from different mints of the same year

For example 1966 (c) and 1966 (l) - differentiating between the mints where these 5 cent coins were struck.

Is there any reason this is not the case for the 1981 5 cent struck in Canada as there seems to be conclusive means of identifying these coins

PCGS for whatever reason are slow to acknowledge and attribute this kind of thing.

I am reasonably certain that the small SD (as opposed to the tiny SD) for the years 2008, 2012, 2013 2015, 2016 and 2017 can be found in, at least some of, the mint baby sets.
Not sure about the 2011. Can anyone confirm if the 2011 baby set has the small SD?

Source for 2017? Both my 2017 and 2018 sets have the tiny SD. I haven't seen a small SD 2011 myself.

I have a 2016 Baby set and the Decimal Changeover set, both with a small SD. I don't have a mint set but all the changeover and plain in circulation I've seen are tiny SD.

Sorry Mr T , I made a mistake about the 2017 small SD.
Can anyone advise where I might be able to purchase any of these varieties. ebay isn't much help as the pictures rarely show the SD size, and are often stock pics, not of the actual coin to be received.

I managed to get a 2013 small/normal SD off ebay (got lucky with the image being of the coin for sale).
The rest I haven't seen on ebay. Probably go to a coin show - dealers usually have singles from cut up sets.

Also, I think I've seen a 2011 Baby Set with the small/normal SD - to be confirmed.

I have just managed to get a 2011 small SD of ebay. The seller was kind enough to supply a reverse pic of the actual coin. Very pleased. Just need the 2016 and 2016(50 years) in small SD to complete. These are proving tricky!

Nice.
Is the 2016 commemorative with small SD confirmed? I've only seen four of them and they were all tiny SD.

Mr T, I thought it was you who said it was available in both, but having re-read your earlier post, you mentioned the 2016 baby set as possibly having the small SD. Can you confirm that that was the case, and I suppose the baby set is the normal set, not the commemorative.

By commemorative I meant the 50c years of decimal currency 5c (threepence obverse) - not sure if it exists with small SD or not.
The 50 years of decimal currency specimen sets (with the plain obverse coins) seem to have the small SD, as does the baby set I have seen.

Mr T., that's interesting about the 2016 plain and baby sets. I have always associated the tiny SD with the large echidna (spines very close to rim at 12 o'clock). Looking at my 2016 mint set the echidna is the large echidna type but the SD does appear slightly larger, maybe approaching a small SD. Can you confirm if your small SD has the large echidna? I would email you about this rather than take up everyone's time on this forum but cannot seem to be able to do this. Perhaps you can email me, if that isn't breaking the rules.
Hans.

The pic below looks like a small SD to me, but with the large head, spines close to rim at 12 o'clock. Anyone agree or think it is a tiny SD.

My 2016 baby set with low echidna has the small SD - possibly your tiny SD was struck from a die that had a bit of fill in that area?

I've got nothing against email but I thought it was helpful to keep this public for anyone else hunting these (this seems to be possibly the only public place this is being discussed).

Mr T. Fair call. Since posting that picture I have come across a set for sale that looks like the small SD, low echidna. Thinking of buying it but I only want the 5 cent piece and they are asking just under $60. I am currently looking for one from a broken up set. Hans

I have noticed that the pics accompanying the 2018 Possum Magic Baby set on ebay seem to have a small SD 5 cent.
Can anyone verify if they have one, and if it has the small SD 5 cent?

Got a link?
I've noticed the RAM uses some computer generated images in their marketing that show incorrect minor details.
