I like this recent purchase very much. It is a "raw" coin in that it isn't in a slab. However, it came with an ANACS photo certificate from 1985 that states a grade of MS-65, for both obverse and reverse. I see nothing about the coin that would make me think it deserves anything less than MS-65. It's a beauty!

By the way, the certificate was issued to a Robert Dondlinger. Anyone happen to recognize that name?

Would this coin still be graded an MS65 with that dig just below her eye, and does that look like 2 horizontal lines on the eagles breast?

Just curious, because I'm still relatively new to grading morgans.

Beautiful coin! I would say at least a MS65 as well. My only concern is what b17commander brought up - the gouge just below her eye. I think though the luster would compensate for that a little in the grading process.

Very nice coin! My first thought would have been MS-64 due to the gouge and a few abrasions. However, highly detailed photos make the abrasions look much larger and significant than they do in hand. I have no doubt that the coin would be solid for 65 in hand.

My guess due to the marks on both sides, would be MS 63-MS64 tops. I am not a long time collector like some on here, but when I started buying coins back in the early 80's, they graded coins a little different. Some I bought as 65, now would be graded 60 if I sent them in. But why not send it in and see what it comes back as.
