I would say no. I collected Lincoln cents when I was younger then the hobby tailed off. I started collecting again with the State Quarters program started, but then stopped when I got involved with other stuff. I now hope to collect more consistently by focusing on Linclon cents, and newer coins like American the Beautiful quarters and Presidential dollars.

Little old thread but I didnt put my 2 cents in on it. Nope, State Quarters did nothing for me. Gazing at my fathers old coins as a child did. He had lots of old silver which now serves as a basis for my collection. Love breaking them out and showing my kids now.

To a certain extent, and I am not american. I was working in Six Flags Great Adventure in 1999 when the first ones were circulating, and I worked the next two summers in the US and began to collect these. But I left the US without being a coin collector, but with a bag of coins that had a Buffalo nickel, lots of pennies, a few half dollars and a few dollar coins and went off to Spain which was just about to get the Euro coins. Spain had the peseta and I began to collect these because I knew they were disappearing. So Spain and the US made me a coin collector, even though I'm British and have a vague interest in older British coins!

No, I have been collecting since the late 1960's. At least we had 50 states then.

I think the State Quarter series played a part in my igniting my collecting, but I didn't really stick to that series for long. I quickly found other series that I thought were more interesting.

Yes - although more accurately it was the ATB Park Quarters that got me back into coin collecting. Now I have pretty much all of the clad dimes, quarters, and half dollars (except for 3 2008-2009 D quarters and the 2015 D dime) and am working on nickels. Just went through a box today and found 7 more, with 25 to go. The going gets slower and slower of course...

My grandparents got me into the hobby when I was 4 or 5 they got me whitman coinfolders for Christmas and when I would visit them would go through rolls of old pennies they had saved and help me fill the folders.

I think the State Quarter program is a great affordable way to get young kids interested in coins. I found a worn 1910 Wheat penny in circulation in 2008 that reignited my interest in coins.

T-BOP technically the proof state and ATB Quarters are also 90% silver but I get what you're saying. The State Quarters were one of the things that got me collecting. I wanted a full set of silver proof, which was the first set I completed

I have to say that I was one of the many victims of the State Quarter program that brought so many people into the hobby.

When my father-in-law passed, I went through all the change he had been keeping in jars. He only saved coins of interest, and the State Quarters were included. After sorting them, he had a nearly complete set, only missing three. Since I coach, I asked my girls if they could look for those three. A few days later, 2 different girls came in with 2 of the three. Another coach saw what we were doing, reached into his pocket to check his change, and he had the third! This was mint specific too, crazy coincidence. I decided after that that I wanted to have my own coin collection (the other is with my mother-in-law), and have since completed a circulated Franklin set, and an uncirculated state and territories set. Lincoln wheat is down to 3 more coins, and I have started an uncirculated Franklin set.

That's what he U.S. mint wanted to do so they can have a lot more customers buying their products. It Makes CENTS ! personally I think It's great to have more coin collectors in this country.
