I was pleased to find this quarter in a small lot of "junk" silver I bought recently. It appears mint state, probably about MS-62.

It occurs to me the inexpensive silver proof quarters from the early 1960's might be passed off as the Type B reverse business strikes. According to the price guides at least, the Type B coins are worth more than an average proof. This coin does not have prooflike surfaces, so I presume it is a legitimate business strike.

Can someone point me to a link that shows the different reverses? To me it looks like a normal quarter

* I've found one 1964P .
The best indicator to me is the wide gap between the E&S of States on the Reverse.

On a normal business strike reverse, these 2 letters are practically touching each other.

Hmm...okay, so I'm not a quarter person. Could someone who is in the know kindly explain something regarding rarity, value, etc. of this coin?

Coppercoins, there are quite a few threads on the Type B reverses in the CCF archives. Here is one:

http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...&whichpage=1

Retail price guides like Coin Values and Coin Market (from Numismatic News) now list the Type B coins. They are shown to be worth substantially more than the normal silver Philly quarters. The 1962 for example is valued at about $60 in MS-60, compared with $4 for the normal reverse. I doubt however that you can find ready buyers at the stated retail values!
