As for the hole, it's possible it was used in some kind of cheap jewellery. It's also possible a shopkeeper was sick and tired of receiving these "coins" in the till and nailed one to his reference collection of counterfeit coins to remind himself to be on the lookout for them. The token in the earlier thread has a crudely punched hole as well, so it seems to have been a common fate of these pieces.

These sorts of counters typically sell for a few dollars each; ones with holes in them probably for less.
