I've had the Newton 50p, I don't recall seeing any other denominations. They must be out there somewhere.

Hi, I have a new £1 coin from 2016 but the gold colour is quite dark & much duller than my other £1 coins. Could this be normal wear?

Hello Coinnovice81 and ! It sounds to me as if it could be normal circulation - coins get exposed to a variety of situations and the toning can vary considerably. I've just sorted through £100 in £2 coins and the brass outer parts are a whole range of shades of yellow. But if you want more members to advise, I'd recommend that you post a photo of the coin on the Forum.

Well done, NumisRob. I'm still yet to find either. I'm finding any sort of commemorative two pound harder to come by in circulation these days.

Two different coins, both dated 2017, both with partial doubled dies on the micro lettering.

I don't know whether I should be pleased or sorry about this, but I've just had my first definitely identifiable fake £2 coin! Fake 2011 £2 coin: Genuine 2011 £2 coin for comparison: The real giveaway is the wide date, and the hologram in the centre of the forgery looks as if it's just been scratched onto the die. The colour looks a little off, but the fake is not magnetic. The edge is milled, with the correct edge inscription, although the letters are a bit smaller than on a genuine coin and very faint. The dies are also rotated by 180%, so the obverse is upside-down when the reverse is the correct way up. I'd give it 8/10. I've also just had an Olympics Wrestling 50p (mintage 1,129,500).

I have only come across 2 in my time change checking Rob, 1 is the same as yours. 2011 - orientation 90% clockwise, queen looking down. 2003 - rough early effort, no edge inscription. Edges - middle one is genuine

I've just had a 2017 50p with the Royal Arms design - it's only the third 2017 coin I've had so far, after the £1 and the Peter Rabbit 50p. And... just sorted through £20 in 10p's in the vain hope of getting one of the new Alphabet coins - but found this!
