I actually used a kitchen scouring pad and some cleaning liquid designed for getting limescale off taps and sinks. I wasn't concerned about damaging the coin, just about getting it in 'spendable' condition

Nice. I had an Isle of Man 10p like that and it took multiple baths in vinegar to get rid of all the green.

Found this coin error in my change about 20 years ago, had it confirmed that it's a clipped coin made In the production process.
A dealer offered me £10 for it early 2000.

I haven't had anything interesting in change for a while, but a few days ago I bought something for £1.98 from a local supermarket and put a £2 coin in the self-service till. I was quite surprised to get two 1979 pennies back. One was in typical brown average circulated condition and the other was GEF with quite a bit of mint lustre. Pre-1992 bronze pennies are by no means rare, but getting two together these days is quite unusual.

This 2017 5p must be an error I think - the other side looks perfectly genuine, Struck Through Grease?

also found my first 2022 UK coin (they have been out for a few weeks, but first I got in change)

I've had two 2021 10p coins in change in the past few days - the first I've had. One was quite well-circulated so they have obviously been around for a while.

Nice finds!

Interesting that one has show some wear in what seems to be a short time.

Had a Commonwealth Games 50p and a Platinum Jubilee 50p in my change today - felt like a good omen since I started my new job today. I can't remember the last time before this that I got a commemorative in my change by chance, so to have two appear today really felt uplifting. For them to actually be "interesting" commemoratives (ie not a common Potter, Paddington or Sherlock) was a huge bonus as well. I tried going back immediately after to complete another transaction at the place I got my PJ 50p, but it seems that I had literally had the last 50p in the till!

I am still waiting for a Platinum Jubilee 50p! But yesterday I got something quite interesting in change at one of my local supermarkets - a 1971 Guernsey 1p. It's in pretty good condition considering that it's been in circulation for 50 years!

Had a fake 2018 pound coin in change yesterday. It's a pretty decent fake too - can imagine it fooling a lot of people.

That is the only disadvantage of having high face value coins like the £2 and £1 - the fakes abound.

Don't suppose we can see this fake coin?

Never have a problem in the USA with that when its biggest coin in full use is a near worthless quarter.
