According to the website linked above (http://www.slqcoins.us/educational.html), the bottom one almost has to be a 1916. The robe "attached" to the foot on the left, the lack of two distinct hair spikes, and the weak rivets on the shield are all indicators of a 1916. Awesome!

I echo Scooby_Doo's sentiments...I just blew a whole bunch of time reading this at work only to discover that we don't yet have the happy ending we're all hoping for. In the immortal words of Homer Simpson, "D'oh!"

Yeah, it's Nod vs. Dealer round 2(the revenge of Nod).

So far, Dealer has 1, and Nod 0. He lost the battle, but can he win the war?

I really need to get a life..lol.

I wouldn't say 1-0, I'd call that one a draw. Nod still has the upper hand. Well, at least that's what we're all hoping. But, from everything I've read from the pro's in this thread, looks .

I wonder if the dealer knew NGC wouldn't grade it.
Rest in Peace

Well, the dealer said there was no way to tell the difference without a date, and NGC agreed. I'm sure the dealer has already declared victory in his mind..lol.

Sure, but my impression from NGC was that if I sent them a dateless type 1 Buffalo nickel, they would do the same thing, even though it is unequivocally a 1913 since that is the only year they made type 1. That is an NGC standard. I am willing to take a tie, with the tiebreaker determined by the results from ANACS.

That's really lame of NGC imo... So they wouldn't even slab a dateless chain cent?

, especially when you're talking about only ONE possibility with the diagnostics given, like the type 1 Buffalo.

If it's a draw between Nod and the dealer, does Nod give the dealer 50 cents and the dealer give Nod half of his paycheck...?

I don't think a draw is possible. If it comes back as a 1916, Nod wins. Anything else and the dealer wins. The thing is, that it is virtually impossible for the dealer to win unless Nod's coin is flat out counterfeit somehow, or there is something about it they find questionable. We know ANACS slabs dateless type 1 slqs. My bet is on Nod....ALL IN!

The funny thing is that my dealer didn't know about these diagnostics either. When I showed him my coin and pointed out the differences, he could see what I was talking about and believed me; but it would still be nice to prove it to him.

Many dealers may not know - which is why I've picked type 1's from "junk bins" on three occasions in the past few months now. Granted - no 16's found, but still, getting them at $2.50 each is worth searching.

I'm with everyone else here by saying that Nod will be taking the dealer's paycheck as "interest" for him holding on to that coin for two weeks.
