the other side is of the ship, I guess I can only put one picture on at a time.....has any one seen any thing like this? is it a minting error or did someone do this to the coin?

My guess is someone tried to make it into jewelry.

I have a penny that has been machined out. I think mine is half of a Magician's coin. Maybe someone started to make one with your piece?

Definitely not a mint error. It appears to have glue or solder on that side. I expect it would have been attached to something.

Marks on the damaged side shows machinery at work, to my own metal worknig experience this has been subected to some process called "torna" in Turkey - don't know the English word for it. It's very similar to that small tool car shops use to polish the paint on the car. Not a mint error, I assume.
