Wow. That guy wants over 50 bucks for a fake and 16 bucks for shipping? I will watch this to see how many true idiots there are out there.

Halfwitty, he wants over 50 bucks but it is for 47 fake seated halfs. This guy will sell you full Dansco books of fakes, it is an outrage that our government allows this to continue.

Why is it an outrage?

All of his coins are CLEARLY stamped "Replica". Wouldn't it be covered under the same type of laws as fair use and parodies?

It the govt was to go after replica/copy coin makers (not counterfeiters, they should be shot) They would also have to go after the Franklin, Morgan, National Collectors, and any other private mint that makes their own coinage for collecting. Not to mention all of the people that "colorize" coins and screen print images on top of coins. There is a large market for the service these people provide.. If there wasn't then they wouldn't spend the time and money to make the dies and mint the coins.

Moreover they they have to purchase materials for manufacturing, they have employees on payroll, and then they have sales taxes... So the govt makes money on them.

I'm rather certain, and I don't think I'm wrong, but one cannot duplicate a 1 dollar bill exactly per spec, and simply place a tiny notation on it that whispers COPY or REPLICA. The Secret Service/Treasury Dept are all over stuff like that. The same should apply to coins.

Coretj, I would have no problem if the word "replica" or "copy" was part of the die used to make the coins but I see countless examples of these coins where they were not stamped copy or replica and were struck on full weight planchets and the sellers are trying to pass them off as real coins. The field of coins I collect is flooded right now with high end counterfeits and it is getting worse, not better. Go to any large swap meet or flea market and I bet you will find sellers with fake coins that are not stamped as a copy. A large part of the problem, not all but a large part, is Chinese counterfeiters that operate with impunity in China and are flooding the world coin markets with fakes. I seriously doubt all the coins coming out of that ebay sellers store have the word copy or replica stamped on them.

I pretty much guaranty that if you buy this set of coins there will be no replica or copy on the coins. They show it in the picture, but the coins they ship don't have them. I've bought a few Morgan and Lincoln replicas from china and not one was marked.

Coetj. Don't know how old you are, my friend, but I have spent 10 years overseas to world fairs and seen goats in the market place. The only reason these things are sold is for people, scammers, to clear the COPY,REPLICA and such to make money from them. This should be in the same eyeball as a bill copy. I will guarantee that if someone were to say that these individuals were making bills, the Secret Service would be falling all over themselves. They just don't feel as it is the same. A dollar here,a dollar there,a half dollar here. There is no Radar. dude.

Sometime in the last few years there was a thread here that had pictures of a "coin factory" in China. Too many posts to sift through, & it might have been in a related thread, but there was a link to an interview with a guy in China that owned one of these factories. He was one of the major sellers on ebay, & boldly stated that he would ship the coins without copy or replica stamped on them if the buyer asked.

Coin collecting has certainly been affected by the flood of fake coins and most of them are not marked as such and are made to be passed off as real. They are even faking slabs from the grading companies and yes it's going to have a huge impact on the coin collecting hobby. They say that over half of the Trade dollars on the market are fake and so I wouldn't buy one unless its a graded one from NGC or PCGS and even then you aren't sure.

I agree the A that you have marked definitely looks like an A but can't really make out the other letters as good but if you can see them in hand and are pretty sure thats what it is then it very well could be

This is precisely why I will never buy a coin on ebay or any of the other auction sites unless they are slabbed.I would rather pay a little extra from my coin dealer so I know who to punch in the nose if it turns out to be fake.
